Norma Shirk
Norma Shirk Norma Shirk owns Corporate Compliance Risk Advisor, LLC, a human resources consultant for employers seeking assistance in navigating their employment law obligations. Ms. Shirk also helps employers assess their corporate risks in order to mitigate those risks through internal controls and insurance coverage.
Ms. Shirk received a J.D. from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville School of Law and a B.A. (History) from Middle Tennessee State University. She holds a law license in Tennessee, Texas, and Colorado. As a lawyer, she worked for FDIC, the State of Tennessee, and several insurance companies and agencies. She transitioned from her career as a lawyer giving legal advice in 2011 and now provides business consulting services.
She writes a weekly blog that alternates between HR issues, www.hrcompliancejungle.com and historical topics, www.normashirk.com. She is a founder and contributor to the Her Savvy blog, www.hersavvy.com.
She speaks frequently on topics ranging from employer responsibilities under the Affordable Care Act, to mitigating corporate risks such as employee dishonesty, to the challenges of running a small business. She has presented to the Tennessee Bar Association (TBA), Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) – Middle Tennessee and Clarksville, TN chapters, and Accounting & Financial Women’s Alliance (AFWA) – Music City chapter.
Ms. Shirk also presents on historical topics to the Breakfast Club of Nashville, the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), and Kiwanis.
Ms. Shirk is a past president of the Breakfast Club of Nashville, a networking group for women professionals and the former Chair of the Executive Council for the Corporate Counsel Section of the TBA. She volunteers with several non-profits.
